Pooier Smooth Walker raakt in de problemen wanneer hij zijn financiële verplichtingen ten opzichte van Mom niet meer kan nakomen. Om uitstel en hopelijk uitstel van executie te krijgen, verzint hij een lucratief bondgenootschap met een fictieve dokter Detroit die hem onder druk zet en Mom concurrentie aandoet. De sullige Clifford Skridlow, docent aan een universiteit, wordt door Walker uitverkozen om deze hersenschim gestalte te geven.
